Takashi Yamazaki has started work on the film ‘Godzilla: Minus Zero’, a sequel to the 2023 film, the plot details of which are still being kept under wraps.

A new film about a powerful lizard is being prepared for release in Japan – work on the film “Godzilla: Minus Zero” has been announced. This time the director, screenwriter and visual effects supervisor was again Takashi Yamazaki, as in the previous part – “Godzilla: Minus One”, released in 2023. The exact premiere date and plot details remain secret for the time being.

The unusual title of the next part, as well as the official logo of the film, was presented on the eve of a special date: November 3, which is celebrated in Japan as “Godzilla Day”. Yamazaki’s return to work on the series received special attention. His previous film took a special place in the history of the film series: many fans consider Godzilla: Minus One to be one of the best films in this universe. This time, Yamazaki again combines three key roles at once: screenwriter, director and visual effects supervisor.

Interestingly, Godzilla: Minus One is the thirtieth live-action film about the Japanese-made monster. The film grossed over 7.65 billion yen at the domestic box office and went down in film history as the first Asian film to win an Oscar for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. In total, this part collected more than 50 prestigious awards around the world and caused a new wave of interest in the image of Godzilla.

As stated in the official announcement:

“Since his first appearance in 1954, Godzilla has continued to amaze and capture attention not only in Japan, but around the world.”

Fans are intrigued by the transition from ‘Minus One’ to ‘Minus Zero’, with some wondering if this means a prequel, new semantic touches, or a reboot of the story.

At this point, only a few facts have been confirmed:

  • Director, screenwriter and special effects specialist – Takashi Yamazaki
