Reese Witherspoon opened up about her experience dealing with postpartum depression in an interview. The actress admitted that, like many other women facing this diagnosis, she had to cope with the difficulties alone, Daily Mail wrote.
According to Reese, the period after the birth of her oldest daughter, Ava, was especially difficult for her. Afterwards, she cried almost constantly and had difficulty coping with emotions. As Witherspoon explained, her condition was related to hormonal changes.
“It was terrible. For the first six months, I was happy and depressed at the same time. I cried all the time, couldn’t sleep at night, felt completely exhausted. First right after birth, and then six months later, when I stopped breastfeeding, there was a hormonal drop that I didn’t expect,” the actress said.
Additionally, Reese Witherspoon admitted that she did not speak openly about her condition for a long time because she felt pressure and condemnation from society: “Everyone has an opinion. It’s hard to be a young mother when you’re told how to act, how to give birth, how to breastfeed your baby, what to feed. It’s a lot.”
By the way, Reese Witherspoon previously revealed her real name and talked about its meaning. Read more here.
