Guillermo del Toro is currently in production on his highly anticipated Frankenstein film, which is being shot in Edinburgh. Photos and video have emerged from the set and one of them offers a first look at Oscar Isaac like Victor Frankenstein.
Del Toro is writing, directing and producing the film and has previously said of the project: “It’s a film I’ve wanted to make for 50 years, ever since I saw the first Frankenstein.
“I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I wouldn’t have had 10 years ago. Now I’m brave enough or crazy enough or something, and we’re going to deal with it.”
The director also explained that he was afraid of making this film: “Frankenstein for me it’s the pinnacle of everything, and part of me wants to do a version of it, while another part of me has been holding back for more than 25 years.
“I dream of being able to achieve the greatest Frankenstein never, but then if you do it, you do it. Whether it’s great or not, it’s done. You can’t dream it anymore. That’s the tragedy of a director.
“You can dream something, but once you’ve achieved it, you’ve achieved it. That’s it. You got a 10 or a 6.5, but you were already at the Olympics and you were judged.”
Producer J. Miles Dale He went on to say that it will be a “deeply emotional” film, and added: “In the last two films, certainly with Nightmare Alley and then with Pinocchiowe’ve been through the whole father-son thing. And Guillermo and I have both lost our fathers in the last few years.
“When you have a strong father figure, it’s an important part of our lives. This version of Frankenstein it follows that thematic path a lot. So, I feel like this is the third film in Guillermo’s father’s trilogy. It’s exciting, and when you read the script, it’s very exciting and, of course, very iconic.”
The film is based on by Mary Shelley novel that follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but self-centered scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the downfall of both the creator and his tragic creation.
The film also stars Mia Goth, Christoph WaltzAND Jacob Elordi like The Monster.
