FX has released the first teaser trailer for Noah Hawleythe next Alien series Alien: Earthand they also released the official plot summary of the sci-fi series, revealing the details of the story.
The series description reads: “When a mysterious spaceship lands on Earth, a young woman (Patricia of Sydney) and a motley crew of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that brings them face to face with the greatest threat on the planet.”
There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Alien franchising at this time after the success of Alien: Romulusthat was a great movie! It will be interesting to see what exactly this series has in store for us. This teaser trailer is actually the same one that was shown during screenings of Alien: Romulus.
The story is set three decades before the events of by Ridley Scott 1979 classic Alien and a few years before PrometheusThe series will see the characters “caught in a conflict between the dawn of artificial intelligence and the competition between developers and users.”
Hawley previously said of the story: “It’s set on a future Earth. Right now, I describe it as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Somebody’s going to monopolize electricity. We just don’t know which one.”
He continued: “In the movies, we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence, but what if there were other companies trying to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg augmentations or transhuman downloads? Which of these technologies is going to win?”
This series will combine “the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, making it a thrilling and terrifying journey that will keep everyone glued to the screen.”
Hawley also spoke about the project, saying: “It’s about how we’re caught between the primordial past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us.
“It’s set on a future Earth. Right now, I describe it as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone’s going to monopolize the electricity. We just don’t know which one.”
He continued, “I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.”
Producer John Langraf also shared some details, saying, “It’s the first story in the Alien franchise that takes place on Earth. It takes place on our planet, towards the end of this century where we’re currently in, 70-something years from now. I hope they see it as true to the franchise that they love, but also a bold and original reinvention of that franchise.”
“Setting it on Earth is really interesting. We have to think about the future of the planet in terms of environment, governance, technology, and creating and designing a version of the planet in the future… Noah wants to do it in a distinctive and original way.”
The show also features the participation of Alex Lawther (The end of the fucking world) as the male protagonist, a soldier named CJ, with Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror) as another main character named Boy Kavalier, a CEO. Other cast members include Essie Davis (The Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries) like Lady Silvia, Timothy OliphantAND Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) as Lightly.
