Thanks to Vanity Fair, we have our first look at the director My friend Jason Reitmanthe next set of 1975 Saturday night live film titled Saturday evening.
The film is described as a “comedy thriller” that builds on the first “Live from New York…” The film takes place in real time over the course of 90 minutes and is a story full of comedy and intensity.
SNL premiered on October 11, 1975 and this film “is the true story of what happened that night behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of SNL.
“The chaos and magic of a revolution that almost didn’t happen, as we count down the minutes in real time to the infamous words, Live From New York, it’s Saturday night.”
Reitman and Gil Kenan wrote the screenplay after conducting interviews with all the living cast, writers and crew of SNL.
It is explained that every effort was made to keep things as close to the original article as possible. Reitman said: “We interviewed everyone we could find who was still alive from the first.
“Every living cast member, every living writer, the art department, the costume department, the hair and makeup department, the NBC pages, the members of Billy Preston’s band, you know, anyone we could find.”
The movie stars Dylan O’Brien, Lamorne Morris, Emily Fair, Cory Michael Smith, Matte wood, She HuntsAND Kim MatulaThey’re all playing iconic comedians like John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman AND Jane Curtin.
Gabriele LaBelle (The Fablemen, Snack Shack) will play creator Lorne Michaels. Reitman says, “We meet Lorne while he’s still in training.
“He’s a genius and has a vision that goes beyond anyone else there, and anyone his age. That’s a lot for an actor to bring. In this movie, everyone can have a little fun, except Gabe, who has to be the metronome.”
Other cast members include J.K. Simmons (Flick) like comedian Milton Berle, Billy Bryck (Friendship), Joe Crest (Stranger things) like Herb Sargent, co-creator of Weekend Update, Taylor Gray (Star Wars: Rebels) AND McAbe Gregg (Tough teenager) AS In Franken AND Tom Davisthe writers and performers of the SNL duo Franken & Davis.
I can’t wait to see this movie!
