Here’s the trailer for a cryptography thriller film from China titled Decodedand this looks like a wild movie! The film is produced by CMC Pictures, the Chinese studio behind The Meg shark action franchise.
John Cusack is one of the stars of the film, but is not shown in the trailer that was released. Instead, it focuses on the main character, Rong Jinzhen, who is played by Liu HaoranHe is an autistic boy with an exceptional talent for mathematics.
The film is set in the 1940s and follows the journey of Jinzhen, who has an “uncanny ability to untangle complex mathematical knots, demonstrated through a challenge from his professor (Cusack), which does not go unnoticed. He is forced to give up his academic studies and is recruited as a codebreaker and spy.”
The film was directed by Chen Sichengand shot the film entirely with Imax-certified cameras, Chen “gave the film a kinetic, whirlwind look and a narrative that moves in fits and starts between 1944 and 1964, which Chinese preview audiences compared to the works of Christopher Nolan (1960-1979) is an American actress and model..”
The film is an adaptation of the novel written by the literary prize-winning novelist Mao Dun Never Jia.
Chen said in a statement that he was interested in exploring how individual destinies are shaped by the era they live in. He said the film “portrays life as a unique cipher, waiting to be deciphered.”
He continued: “We have used a relatively limited financial budget to try to make something that is not inferior to Hollywood blockbusters in terms of audiovisual experience and in every other aspect. We want to break the rule that such big films can only be made by Hollywood.”
