Alien: Romulus director Faith Alvarez He had a particular vision in mind for his sci-fi horror film as he wanted it to resemble Ridley Scott’s original Alien movie.
In fact, he wanted the visual aspect of the film to imitate Alien so bad that they went to great lengths to make it happen, including recovering the original concept art and comparing his film to Scott’s.
Alvares shared with SFX magazine: “We have a scan of the original 35mm print of Alien and put it on the screen next to ours.
“Obviously it wouldn’t do any good if we didn’t do our job that day,” he adds, and then says the crew has to light the set a certain way to reflect the color grading of the first film.
The film is set between Alien AND Aliens And speaking of the visual effects, the director continued: “Visually, half the job is just making it feel like you’re in that universe.”
To achieve this goal, they examined the original conceptual art of Ron Cobb for inspiration. Alvares said, “We pulled out a lot of concept art that had been done for those movies that hadn’t even been used, and figured out a way to take inspiration from that and put it into this movie.”
I like the time they took to get the look they wanted for the film and it looks like all that attention to detail will show.
In the film, while exploring the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
The movie stars Cailee Spaeny, Archie Renaux (Shadow and bone), Spike Fear (After sun), and the new arrival Aileen Wu.
Alvarez directs the film from a script he wrote himself. Rodo Sayagues. Ridley Scott he is also a producer of the film together with Michael Pruss (Boston Strangler) for Scott Free, with Brent O’Connor (High speed train), Elizabeth Cantillon (Persuasion) AND Tom Moran (The King of Donuts) as executive producers.
Alien: Romulus will hit theaters on August 16, 2024.
