Dafne Keen Talks About Her Exciting Return to Role as Laura/X23 in DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE

There were so many interesting storylines and character dynamics in Deadpool and Wolverineand one of them was the way they paid homage to (after having desecrated the memory of) Wolverine Logan.

The movie contained multitudes. One great scene that was allowed to dive a little deeper was between Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Laura/X23 (Daphne Acute), who had formed a deep bond in the 2017 Wolverine swan song, Logan.

While this timeline’s Logan was a different guy, it was a huge moment for both characters, and Keen talked about it in a recent interview with THR, saying:

“Yeah, that was a really fun thing for me to play. Imagine losing your only father figure in life, only to be reunited with your father almost 10 years later, but he doesn’t know you’re his daughter and he doesn’t have that connection with you in return.

“So it’s heartbreaking and wonderful that they’re almost father and daughter in every universe. As soon as they meet, he feels comfortable enough to have that conversation with her. I don’t think he would have had that conversation with anyone else, and she wouldn’t have had that conversation with anyone else.

“So it was a really cool thing to play, because, even though you don’t know her, does meet her. They’re the same person. So it was a really emotional day for me and Hugh. We were at this bonfire, and we had shot some scenes at a bonfire in Logan.

“We were in a forest and we had shot a lot of scenes in the forest. LoganThe last time we acted together was his death scene. [in Logan]I think, and now we were back there doing this. It was a night shoot, and you’re already in a frenzy because it’s 3:00 in the morning, but it was still a very emotional day.”

Keen did a great job reprising his role, and brought a lot of heart to the film. He went on to talk about the first time he saw Hugh Jackman during a costume fitting, after not seeing him since their first film.

“The first meeting we had was after the costume fitting, where I met the random cameo. I was halfway through the fitting and they were like, ‘Hugh’s on stage next to you and he really wants to see you.

“Can you run out?” I was trying on jeans, so I had the tags hanging, but I was like, “Yeah, sure!” Then I ran out while they were approving a set, and I walked in and Hugh was like, “Oh my God, it’s you!”

“And then we hugged, and it was really crazy because we hadn’t seen each other in ages. He was like, ‘Oh my God, you’re so tall.’ And I was like, ‘Well, you haven’t seen me since I was 12.’ (Laughs.) So we hugged, but it was very quick because we were both in a hurry.

“And then as I was leaving, my car stopped. They were like, ‘Shawn, Ryan, and Hugh would love for you to read a scene with them.’ I was like, ‘Now what?’ So we went and read the scene, and it was really fun and cool.

“The photo that Hugh posted of us was taken in that little room. And then our first scene together wasn’t the campfire scene. That was the second scene we shot. The first scene we shot was very casual, where Hugh and I barely had any dialogue, so we were able to catch up off-camera, which was really sweet.”

This movie was just a big love fest between a lot of people who have a lot of respect for each other and who wanted to make a great movie, and they did that. Deadpool and Wolverine It’s in theaters all over the world.
