It was just confirmed at Comic-Con that Robert Downey Jr. He is confirmed to play Doctor Doom in Marvel’s next two Avengers films, Avengers: Judgment Day AND Avengers: Secret Wars!
There were rumors about this casting about a week ago, but it was so unbelievable that no one believed it. Well, it is 100% true and the crowd in Hall H went crazy over the news!
Downey even showed up to Comic-Con dressed as Doom for the big announcement, saying, “I told you I like playing complicated characters.”
It was also announced thatfor Joe AND Anthony Russo he would return to direct these Avengers movies, which is another incredible news!
That’s crazy! The initial report was that Downey Jr. might return in a future Avengers movie as a Stark Variant and that he’ll eventually transform into Doctor Doom. I’m not sure if that’s the direction they’re going, but Downey Jr. is definitely Doom.
Interestingly, Downey Jr. auditioned to play Doctor Doom in the 20th Century Fox film Fantastic Four film before landing the role of Tony Stark in Iron Man.
Speaking previously about his potential return, the actor seemed very open to the idea, saying: “It’s just insanely in my DNA. Probably the most similar character to me that I’ve ever played, even though he’s a lot cooler than me. I’ve become surprisingly open to the idea.”
This is incredible and I am still shocked by the news as I sit here writing in Hall H! Wow!
