Prime Video has changed the title of The boys Season 4 finale, with a trigger warning issued due to parallels to real events and the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The episode was originally titled “Assassination Run” and is now simply titled “Season Four Finale.” The episode includes several references to President-elect Singer (Jim Beaver), Vice President-elect Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) and an attempted assassination of the President.
Prime Video released the following statement: “The season finale of The Boys contains scenes of fictional political violence, which some viewers may find disturbing, especially in light of the injuries and tragic loss of life suffered during the attempted assassination of former President Trump.”
It continues: “The Boys is a fictional series filmed in 2023 and any similarity of scenes or plots to actual events is coincidental and unintentional.
“Amazon, Sony Pictures Television and the producers of The Boys firmly reject any kind of real-world violence.”
This season of The Boys has really delved into the politics of that universe and is clearly inspired by our own. Some people were already upset about its strong political message, given that we’re in a tense election year.
This is something that the showrunner Eric Kripke freely acknowledged in a past interview, saying, “There are so few shows that can directly comment on the world we live in, and they can do it like a cartoon. We can hold up a mirror like a fantasy show.
“But again, because we’re just like, we’re right there. I mean, it’s all in the original comic. The comic is really political. It’s just, it’s political about the post-9/11 George Bush era.
“The show is not subtle. It wears its politics on its sleeve. And it’s fun to criticize the insanity on the right, and we get some shots on the left of all the performative wokeness and all that.
“I’m just going to go with the flow, and then the audience can decide whether or not to watch. I mean, it’s almost become like ‘South Park,’ you know what I mean?”
The Boys Season 4 finale drops today, and the fifth and final season is already in the works. On top of all that is Gen V, which is returning for a second season.
