20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment are in the early stages of development on a film adaptation of the hit action thriller series, 24.
The original Fox series was created by Joel Surnow AND Robert Cochran for Fox, and starred Dr. Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, an agent of the fictional U.S. government’s Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU).
The series ran for nine seasons between 2001 and 2014 and in between there was the 2008 TV movie titled 24: Redemption.
In a recent interview with CNBC, producer Brian Grazer hinted at the possibility of a film version of the series.
No plot details have been shared for the film, but it’s safe to say that it will feature Jack and a team of CTU agents tasked with stopping a terrorist attack.
The reason the original show worked so well was that the story unfolded in real time. I loved that aspect of the show. Obviously you don’t get that with a movie, but if the creative team behind it thinks they have a great new story to tell, I’d watch it.
Sutherland once explained that he feels Bauer’s story is unresolved and that he’s leaving the door open to return to the role someday. He said, “I miss him. It was an incredible experience.
“I’ve learned that it’s best not to be definitive about whether you’re going to do something or not. I love playing that character. I think the story is unresolved.
“If something was written that made sense to me and that I thought would contribute to the franchise, then I would support it, even if my involvement was limited.
“My involvement will always be based on what I perceive as the quality of the writing. If [original showrunner] Howard Gordon is motivated to do it, we’ll see what happens.”
