Francis Ford Coppola announced the opening of a hotel for filmmakers called the All-Movie Hotel in Peachtree City, Georgia, outside Atlanta.
The hotel has 27 rooms, all of which are designed by Coppola. The hotel also features a state-of-the-art production facility with two editing suites with laser projection and Meyer Sound 2.1 monitoring, two editing bays, offices, ADR recording room and a conference room.
Coppola was inspired to create this hotel while filming his latest project Megalopolis in Atlanta and wanted to build something that offered the hospitality and functionality needed to make films of any size.
The director said: “When I didn’t want to think about the movie, I thought about this hotel, and when I didn’t want to think about the hotel, I thought about the movie.”
The All-Movie Hotel was previously a Days Inn Motel, and the entire property was obviously remodeled to fit Coppola’s vision. He said, “We had to build six suites. And then we needed the ‘Mini-Suites.’
“We had to build special effects facilities and rehearsal rooms, even a little stage to shoot on… and we actually shot on this movie.”
Coppola did all of the post-production work for Megalopolis at the hotel itself, where he also shot some additional footage.
The hotel also features a 30-seat screening room. The director added that the hotel offers the crew the opportunity to “live and connect intimately.”
The hotel’s screening room was named after director Dorothy Arzner. She was one of the few female directors of the silent film era and taught Coppola when he was a film student at UCLA. He said of her, “I benefited from the fact that she kind of liked me. She was always very encouraging.”
The hotel will open to the public on July 25.
