Earlier this week (the day of this writing), Konami announced a new booster pack for Yu-Gi-Oh! Game collectible card game called Quarter Century Bonanza.
This is a strange set that we know very little about, but from what we do know it looks like Rarity Collection IIIThe press release even states that this set “picks up where the Rarity Collection sets left off…”
Why don’t we just call it Rarity Collection III? Oh, because there are “a lot of new twists!” Let’s talk about it.
Quarter Century Bonanza is scheduled to be released on November 8th (November 6th at OTS stores) with each pack costing $5.99. Each pack will contain five cards per pack like the original Collection of rarities set. Using Konami’s language, Slot A will be a guaranteed luxury Secret Rare.
This translates to a Platinum (PSR) or a Quarter Century (QCSR). Slots BE will match Rarity Collection with a Super Rare, two Ultra Rares (with a ⅙ chance of being a “prismatic” Ultimate [PUR] or rare collectible [PCR]), and a Secret Rare (with a ¼ chance of being a PSR or QCSR). Honestly, it looks really good so far.
Now we get to the weird part of all this (Note: weird doesn’t mean bad, just weird). Every Quarter Century Bonanza The pack will contain cards from two unique card pools.
Slot A (the guaranteed Deluxe Secret Rare) will be from a “200-card nostalgia pool” with Slot BE coming from the “78-card standard set.” This first pool will consist of cards that Konami feels we Duelists want to see in QCSR before that rarity disappears forever due to the end of the 25th Anniversary celebration.
I’m really curious what the card pool will look like, since Konami has pledged to never reprint any cards previously released as QCSRs as QCSRs. We’ve already gotten most of the nostalgia bait as QCSRs, so it’ll be interesting, to say the least. My picks would honestly be the Black Luster Soldier cards.
On this note, there is another twist. While Konami will not be reprinting QCSR cards in QCSR rarity with Quarter Century Bonanzawill include some previous QCSR cards in every other rarity in the set.
The three examples we know are superpolymerization (QCSR in Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge); Promethean Princess, Giver of Flames (QCSR in Phantom Nightmare); and Diabellstar the Black Witch (QCSR in Age of the Supreme Lord).
This means that Promethean Princess and Diabellstar will not receive reprints in 25th Anniversary Tin: Dueling Mirrors? I wonder if this means that S:P Little Knight and Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis will also skip the box in favor of Quarter Century Bonanza.
What do you think about the announcement of Quarter Century Bonanza? What cards do you think will be in each of the pools? Why do you think they abandoned the Collection of rarities name? I’m very interested to know more about a week before the launch.
