It seems Steven Spielberg return to play in the extraterrestrial sandbox! A recent report from Variety states that the director will “likely turn his next project into a UFO movie based on his original idea.”
The screenplay for that film will be written by Jurassic Park scribe David Koeppwho is also working on the new one Jurassic world restart. I love that Spielberg is working with Koepp again. He has also worked on films such as Spiderman, Panic room, Mission Impossibleand more.
Spielberg is no stranger to telling stories about UFOs and aliens, he directed two of the greatest science fiction films of all time: Close encounters of the third kind in 1977 and ET in 1982. He also directed H.G. Wells’ 2005 adaptation War of the Worldsand produced the 2002 UFO series Taken.
It will be interesting to see what this movie ends up being. Spielberg recently reflected on his past and joked that he is interested in “scaring the hell out” of audiences with a new horror film.
He said: “I feel a little alarmed when I’m told I’ve lived a life because I’m not done. I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you. I have to going back to some of those early scary movies, but that’s another story for later.”
It would be really cool if Spielberg ended up making a horror movie about UFOs! We’ll just have to wait and see!
