The actor is also among the producers of the project. In the story, Matt Smith will play Bunny Munro, a traveling salesman selling cosmetics, a single father and an incorrigible womanizer. After the death of his wife Libby (Sarah Greene), he and his 9-year-old son (played by Rafael Mate) take a trip to the south of England. In the trailer for the series, a son asks his father: “Teach me to be a merchant like you.” However, he does not become an exemplary father: The hero occasionally gets involved in dirty intrigues.

In the Russian localization, the series was called “Death of the Womanizer”. There are six chapters in total. The premiere will take place on November 20.

Let us also add that the novel “The Death of Munro the Rabbit” is an adaptation of the second novel of rock musician Nick Cave (the first book is “And the Donkey Looked at God’s Angel”). The text contains very clear explanations. The author himself admitted that he was inspired by the Bible and the radical feminist “SCUM Manifesto” (in the original – SCUM Manifesto, in Russian translation it means “Society for the Total Extermination of Men”), which further increased the scandal.

For screenwriter Pete Jackson, this was a real challenge, especially in conveying dark impulses, shameful thoughts and desires: “I had no idea how we were going to do this at first. It’s kind of crazy! Think about it: there are already “floating vaginas” on the first page. I loved this book!” Therefore, the team had to use different methods to shock the audience but also to establish a connection without alienating them.

The band’s leader, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, admitted that he was happy with the project. He even wrote the music for the series with Warren Ellis.

Nick Cave said: “Finally someone had the courage to take on this evil story. I’m delighted that Sky and Clenenwell Films brought Bunny to life in all his evil glory, and I can’t think of anyone better than Matt Smith for the role.”

According to the scriptwriter and director, the main task was to prevent the objectification of women. Therefore, Eklef decided to do the same with the main character.

“Yes, I have used the female gaze very actively in my career, because on the set it is impossible to avoid the sexualization of characters. This is natural. Every gaze has a sexual connotation, but to make it equal, you need to objectify men equally.”

Director Isabella Eklef admitted during filming that her inspiration was films of the 70s, especially the works of John Cassavetes and David Lynch. For example, the viewer will notice references to Natural Born Killers, Apocalypse Now, Red Rocket, and Bad Santa.
