Apple TV+ has renewed its sci-fi drama series For all humanity for the fifth season! On top of that, there will also be a spin-off series focusing on the Soviet space program!
The spinoff is titled City of Stars and was developed by For all humanity creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt WolpertAND Ben Nedivi. Nedivi and Wolpert will serve as showrunners.
The series “will return to the beginning of For all humanity alternate timeline, in which the Soviets are the first to reach the moon.”
But the show will then “explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers sandwiched between them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to push humanity forward ”.
Wolpert and Nedivi shared in a statement: “Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with each season of For all humanity. The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow, where Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race.”
They added: “We couldn’t be more excited to continue building the ‘For All Mankind’ alternate historical universe with our partners Apple and Sony.”
Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, said: “With each new season, For all humanity continues to build a fascinating world and captivate global audiences through high-quality storytelling developed so skillfully by Ron, Matt and Ben.”
He continued, “There is so much to explore and, together with our partners Sony, we can’t wait to dive into this next chapter of the compelling game.” For all humanity universe.”
This is exciting! I love this show and it will be great to see a completely new story told, along with the sequel For all humanity.
For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an ambitious world in which NASA astronauts, engineers and their families find themselves at the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate timeline: a world in which the USSR beats the United States to the moon.
The final season was set eight years after the events of the third season and Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its presence on Mars and the former enemies are now partners. As you might imagine, there are still simmering tensions among the residents of the international base, and those tensions threaten to shatter everything they’re working for.
I liked how the story of season 4 unfolded and I can’t wait to see how the next chapter of the story unfolds.
