Channing Tatum Promises a “Raging Cajun” Gambit in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

Channing Tatum is ready to light the fire Avengers: Judgment Dayand he’s making it clear that his take on Gambit will be as wild and charismatic as fans hoped.

After finally managing to bring the fan-favorite mutant to life Deadpool and WolverineTatum will officially return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the massive crossover film hitting theaters next year.

While promoting his next film RoofmanTatum explained what audiences can expect from his version of the X-Men’s card-throwing antihero.

“He’ll still be the Cajun. You know, he’ll still be the raging Cajun that he is. To me, he was the most real of all the X-Men.

“He liked women, he smoked, he drank. His moral compass was very gray. He would never be a villain. He didn’t have the courage to be a villain, but he wasn’t exactly a hero, a hero. And I think he’s very human.”

This down-to-earth, complicated lead is exactly what made Gambit such a great character in the comics, and it looks like Tatum plans to keep that same energy alive in Avengers: Judgment Day.

It’s a role he’s clearly passionate about, especially considering his long and somewhat tragic history trying to make a solo Gambit film at 20th Century Fox before its merger with Disney.

Tatum reflected on that personal connection, explaining:

“Not everyone knows about my journey with Gambit. He was my favorite character growing up. I was the kid who threw playing cards at my friends in the living room when I was in third grade.

“And so, that’s literally my boyfriend. Like, I love him so much. I love him for so many reasons. And I’m just happy that, one, that Ryan gave me the chance to actually play him and show the world what I saw in him.”

He also teased how exciting his next appearance will be, adding that he will return to the role Avengers: Judgment Day it’s “even more delicious than I can describe.”

Although the details on Avengers: Judgment Day are being kept tightly under wraps, Tatum hinted in a previous interview that Marvel fans are in for something huge, saying:

“It’ll make your brains pop out of your ears. As I knew when Blade appeared on screen in Deadpool & Wolverine, people will physically lose their minds.”

Tatum is ready to steal the show. With that classic mix of charm, danger and unpredictable energy, the “raging Cajun” could easily become one of the biggest scene stealers in Avengers: Judgment Day.
