Inside the making of the terrifying new film VICIOUS, which sees Dakota Fanning face Pure Evil

Paramount+ just shared a behind-the-scenes featurette for Viciousthe last nightmare of Bryan Bertinothe director behind The Foreigners AND The Dark and the Wicked.

The two-minute preview dives into the creative process behind what promises to be one of this October’s most disturbing horror experiences.

The film focuses on Polly, played by Dakota Fanningwho receives a mysterious box from a night visitor, played by Kathryn Hunter. The box comes with simple but chilling instructions: Place three things inside: something you need, something you hate, and something you love.

What begins as a strange ritual quickly turns into a waking nightmare. As Polly follows the rules, reality begins to fracture around her, forcing her to confront not only the darkness around her, but also the darkness within.

The official synopsis reads: “When Polly (Dakota Fanning) receives a mysterious box from an unexpected nighttime visitor (Kathryn Hunter), it comes with a simple instruction: Place three things inside: something you need, something you hate, and something you love.

“What begins as a strange ritual quickly turns into a waking nightmare. Trapped in a terrifying world where reality bends and memory betrays, Polly must face a series of impossible choices. As time slips away, she is forced to confront the darkness not only around her, but within her, before it consumes everything and everyone she has ever known.”

The featurette offers a glimpse into the eerie atmosphere created by Bertino and his team, highlighting the film’s intimate setting and psychological tension. Bertino, known for exploring fear in deeply personal ways, seems to be pushing the limits here too.

In addition to Fanning and Hunter, the cast includes Mary McCormack, Rachel Blanchard, Devyn Nekoda, Klea ScottAND Emily Mitchell.

It’s a little surprising that Paramount isn’t giving this a theatrical release, because Vicious it feels like it was created for that dark, collective theatrical experience with other horror fans. However, they’re streaming it just in time for spooky season.

If you want a slow-burn, reality-warping horror experience, Vicious arrives on Paramount+ on October 10th.
