Joshua Jackson is the latest actor to join the cast of Sony Pictures’ next installment The karate kid. The film is also the protagonist Ralph Macchio AND Jackie Chan, who are reprising their iconic roles from the franchise. The film is also the protagonist Chinese born in America actor Ben Wang like the next Karate Kid.
Macchio will reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso and Chan will take on the role of Mr. Han, the kung fu master of the Jaden Smith movie. The film “will mark a continuation of the mythology of the original franchise.”
The film’s story will be set on the East Coast and will focus on “a Chinese teenager (Wang) who finds strength and direction through martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two).”
There’s no word on who Jackson will play, but this will be his first film role in nearly 10 years.
The film will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle (The end of the damn world) from a screenplay written by Rob Lieber, with Karen Rosenfelt producing. The film is scheduled for release by Sony Pictures on December 13, 2024.
