We have a new film coming in the long-running Alien series Alien: Romulus. The film comes from evil Dead director Fede Alvarezand tells a standalone story unconnected to any of the previous Alien films, and that story is set between the events of Ridley Scott’S Alien AND James Cameron’S Aliens.
Alien: Romulus follows a “group of young people in a distant world who find themselves confronted with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” Alvarez’s initial pitch was said to be a “really good story with a lot of characters you’ve never seen before”.
Now, one of the stars of the film, David Jonsson, is joking that the film will take a “very, very, very different” approach to the franchise. Speaking to MovieWeb, he said:
“I know it’s very, very, very different. I think Alien was slightly ahead of my generation, in terms of depth and impact at the time, but you know, we have an incredible twist on it. And we had Fede Álvarez as the our director, Ridley Scott who produces it. It was incredible to work with those people, and vice versa Cailee Spaeny, who is simply a brilliant actress. I think it will be good. I’m very excited.”
The film is also the protagonist Isabela Mercede and is also joined by Archie Renaux (Shadow and bones), Spike Fearn (After sun) and newcomer Aileen Wu.
According to Spaeny, “It should fit in between the first and second movies. They brought the same team from Aliens, the film by James Cameron. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came and built ours. So to see the original design with the original people who worked on these films for over 45 years and were so much a part of their lives was truly incredible.
Alvarez will direct from his script written by Rodo Sayagues. Ridley Scott he is also a producer of the film along with Michael Pruss (The Boston Strangler) for Scott Free, with Brent O’Connor (High speed train), Elizabeth Cantillon (Persuasion) AND Tom Moran (The king of donuts) as executive producers.
Alien: Romulus will be released in theaters on August 16th.
