Jeremy Allen White talks about the voice of Rotta the Hutt in THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU

Jeremy Allen White has officially joined the Star Wars universe, and it turns out his work as Rotta the Hutt may not be done yet. The bear The star recently confirmed that he will voice Jabba the Hutt’s son in the upcoming live-action film The Mandalorian and Groguand at the beginning not even he realized how important his character would be.

Talking to Good morning AmericaWhite revealed that voicing Rotta was a surprisingly evolving process.

“I came to do the voice. They hadn’t made the movie yet. Then they made the movie, I came and did more,” White said. “I’ll probably have to do something more, I spoke with Pedro [Pascal] the other day, and I think he was working some more and seeing more film.”

White explained how The Mandalorian and Grogu director Jon Favreau brought him into the fold, saying, “I met Jon Favreau and I’ve been a big fan of his for a long time. He said would you like to come and maybe talk to me about just doing a voiceover for Star Wars. I said, ‘I love Star Wars.'”

At first, White wasn’t entirely sure who Rotta the Hutt was. “I discovered at that moment the weight of the type of character I was playing,” he admitted.

Rotta, also known as “Stinky,” made his debut in 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Warswhere he was kidnapped by Count Dooku and later rescued by Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano.

In The Mandalorian and Groguthe character has grown and reportedly built as a prize fighter, a very different Hutt than the one fans remember of the lazy crime lord.

White added that the experience has been “a fun process” and shared how much he is looking forward to seeing it with his family. “I’m very excited to take my kids to see it. I think it’s going to be really fun.”

According to the film’s official synopsis, The Mandalorian and Grogu picks up after the fall of the Empire as Imperial warlords continue to threaten the galaxy. The New Republic turns to Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu for help in restoring order.

Next to Pedro Pasquale and Jeremy Allen White, the cast Sigourney Weaver as colonel of the New Republic and Jonny Coyne as an imperial warlord.

With Rotta the Hutt making its live-action debut, fans are interested to see how this unexpected addition to the Star Wars tradition adapts to history.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026, and perhaps it’s Jeremy Allen White’s journey into the Star Wars the universe has just begun.
