Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to VisionQuestthe upcoming Disney+ series that delves deep into the psyche of one of the MCU’s most fascinating characters.
Showrunner Terry Matalas recently talked about what to expect from the series, revealing that he won’t just revisit Ultron, but will explore how much of his “human” side still lingers in the chaos.
During the Marvel’s Phase Hero LIVE podcast at New York Comic Con 2025, Matalas teased what’s shaping up to be one of the MCU’s most character-focused stories. He confirmed it James Spader AND Paolo Bettany will share significant screen time together, with their dynamic at the center of the show.
“You’ll see the robot Ultron, but you’ll see a lot of James Spader and a lot of Paul Bettany together. They’re a key dynamic of the show.”
He added that the series acts as “a delivery system for Bettany and Spader,” giving both actors a chance to revisit their Avengers: Age of Ultron roles in a new light.
Matalas, who also directed the final two episodes, described a moment in the finale as “a Marvel dream.” He confirmed it VisionQuest happens later WandaVisionfollowing White Vision’s journey to rediscover who or what he truly is.
“It’s about a man going through an identity crisis,” Matalas explained. The story will deal with Vision’s ongoing struggle to merge his human emotions with his artificial mind.
In a previous interview, Bettany offered even more insight into the direction the series is headed. “We finally get to see what Vision’s mind is like, and it’s more confusing than you might think,” he said.
Bettany went on to reveal that Vision’s internal systems host multiple copies of AI, and one of them could cause problems. He joked that Vision is keeping a “psychopath” locked behind a firewall, a clear hint that Ultron is still lurking inside.
In addition to Bettany and Spader, the cast includes Emily Hampshire like EDITH, T’Nia Miller like Jocasta, and Todd Stashwick as Paladin, with Faran Tahir reprising his Iron Man role as Raza.
The release is scheduled for 2026 on Disney+, VisionQuest will complete a thematic trilogy with WandaVision AND Agata always.
