Disney Reportedly Pulls the Plug on TRON 4 After TRON:ARES Collapses at the Box Office, Is Jared Leto to Blame?

After years of development, Tron: Ares finally hit theaters, but its disappointing box office debut may have just ended the digital saga for good.

It serves as a standalone sequel to the 2010s Tron: Legacy, Ares follows a powerful program, starring Jared Letowho crosses from the Grid to the real world on a dangerous mission.

It was an interesting direction to take the franchise, which aimed to expand the franchise into something bigger and more relevant to the age of AI. Unfortunately, critics didn’t log in. Although the film has a 54% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has an 87% audience rating.

Despite receiving slightly stronger reviews than Inheritance, Tron: Ares earned just $33 million domestically during its opening weekend, falling short of $43 million Inheritance done 15 years ago. This underperformance shocked Disney, which had been planning a Tron4 already in motion.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, some industry insiders say the studio is walking away Tron on the big screen. This means the post-credits director teases Joachim Rønning included, which needed to be installed Tron4will likely remain unresolved, unless the franchise attempts a revival again 15-20 years from now.

As for why Ares flop, opinions are divided. The online chatter has put Jared Leto in the crosshairs, with many pointing to his former superhero fire, Morbiusas proof that it’s not a box office success. A talent manager told THR:

“In a world where Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor AND Benedict Cumberbatch they’re having a hard time getting leading roles, why would you go to a person who can’t open a movie and who has question marks around him as a person.”

But others say the problem goes deeper than casting. Another insider suggested the Tron the name simply no longer resonates with modern audiences, saying:

“You could have done it Ryan Goslingit wouldn’t have worked. No one asked for this reboot. Sixteen “Tron: Ares it’s good, we just needed a different actor,’ you’re deluding yourself.

If Ares it really marks the end of the journey, it wouldn’t be the first time Tron it became dark. The franchise has already vanished. 28 years separated the original Tron from Inheritanceand 15 others have passed before Ares finally appeared. So while Disney may be pulling the plug for now, history shows that the Grid has a way of rebooting itself when least expected.

It’s a shame that this movie didn’t do better at the box office. It’s truly a fun and great movie that’s worth watching on the big screen!
