Sky has shared the first teaser trailer for its upcoming limited series Amedeoand becomes the protagonist Will Sharpe like the unpredictable genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Paolo Bettany as the tormented composer Antonio Salieri.
This new take on the legendary rivalry promises a rich blend of elegance, madness and obsession. Written by Joe Barton (Black Doves), Amedeo reinvent By Peter Shaffer acclaimed stage show with a modern cinematic reach.
Sharpe is known for The White Lotus AND Tooand brings a wild energy to Mozart. He was seen darting through opulent corridors, grinning mischievously and leaping to grab a chandelier before declaring: “Very elegant.”
The tone quickly changes as Bettany’s Salieri looks on in disgust, muttering, “This loathsome creature, he plays so exquisitely.” That single sentence perfectly captures the twisted admiration and contempt at the heart of their relationship.
The series dives deep into the poisonous envy and divine brilliance that fueled the rivalry between Salieri and Mozart. Salieri, once the hero of his own story, is consumed by resentment as Mozart’s brilliance threatens to eclipse him, driving him toward revenge to protect his position in the royal court.
Amedeo promises a vibrant psychological duel wrapped in the decadence of 18th century Vienna. With its lush visuals, magnetic performances and a reimagined take on one of history’s greatest artistic rivalries, Amadeus looks poised to deliver a heady mix of beauty and madness when it premieres this December.
