Ebon Moss-Bachrach was signed to play The Thing last summer and confirms how they will bring the character to life

Earlier this month, the Marvel poster The fantastic Four has been released, revealing the four main actors of the new franchise, including Pedro Pasquale (The last of us) as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible: Showdown) as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn (Stranger things) as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch; AND Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, The Bear) as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.

Moss-Bachrach appeared Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week to talk about the new role and how it will be performed, telling Kimmel:

“Yeah, it’s Clobberin’ Time, that’s what it says… Ben Grimm of Yancy Street. On the Lower East Side. [It’s] phonetically similar to Delancey but is imaginary.”

The actor took the time to research the character, as he revealed the rumors last summer were true, and has been attached to the role ever since. When asked how long he had known he would play the part, the actor replied:

“My whole life. No, I found out at the beginning of August. I was walking around the city…it was the height of the writers’ strike and I got a phone call from my agent. I wasn’t thinking about the job. They said : ‘They asked you to play The Thing.’ I was so shocked.”

When asked how he will bring The Thing to life, the actor confirmed that the character will be created on screen in the same way as the Hulk, explaining:

“I don’t think it’s the suit. Michael Chiklis was wearing a suit. Apparently, the suit was really uncomfortable. I think we’ve moved past that. It’s a bit cosplay and amateurish now with the technology. It’s mostly about performance capture.”

Then, when Kimmel pressed for story details, Moss-Bachrach joined the ranks of a real Marvel actor, treading carefully and responding to the posted poster, saying:

“Yes, that [teaser] the image appears to be from the 1960s. I read [the script]. I haven’t met Vanessa. There is a group text. began Pedro [it] a couple of days ago. Everyone said something…no one is shy.”

We’re still over a year away from the movie, so we don’t know much about the story yet, but I’m sure we’ll start hearing about it soon. Fantastic 4 will hit theaters on July 25, 2025. Watch the full interview with Ebon Moss-Bachrach below:
