The director of GODZILLA MINUS ONE wants to make a Kaiju vs. Kaiju movie that’s really good

Godzilla minus one director Takashi Yamazaki he will most likely end up directing the sequel to his epic film Godzilla and when he does, he is planning to include another Kaiju for Godzilla to fight.

The director said in a previous interview: “If I were to direct the next Godzilla movie, I would love to make a sequel to this one. There have been two standalone Godzilla movies in a row, so maybe the next one will have to feature a bad monster.

Some of Godzilla’s past enemies include King Ghidorah, Destroyah, Gigan, and others. When Yamazaki makes this Kaiju vs. Kaiju movie he wants to do something that Legendary Entertainment hasn’t been able to do… make a really good Kaiju vs. Kaiju movie with a strong human element.

During an interview with Empire, the director shared, “I don’t know if anyone has achieved a more serious kaiju vs kaiju tone with human drama, that challenge is something I’d like to explore.”

He went on to add, “When you have films that have this characteristic [kaiju battles]I think it’s very easy to put the spotlight and the camera on this huge show, which detaches itself from the human dramatic component.”

He’s absolutely right, and I’d love for him to showcase his storytelling and directing skills and continue to prove to Hollywood that you can make an epic genre film with all the spectacle and still manage to tell a great story. Hollywood has had a long struggle with this.

It will take a while before Godzilla minus one the sequel gets made, though. The director said, “I can tell you [the Minus One sequel’s] it won’t be my next film. I already have the next film I’m working on in development, but will it be the one after that? That remains to be seen.”

While we wait, we can’t wait to see what Yamazaki does next.
