David F. Sandbergthe director behind Annabelle: Creation, Shazam! AND Lights offwill direct the film adaptation of the PlayStation horror video game Until Dawn, produced by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions.
The film’s screenplay was written by Blair Butler (The invitation) and a recent draft was written by Gary Daubermann (En: chapter two AND The nun). The film is said to be a “terrifying, R-rated love letter to the horror genre.”
The story is set one year after the death and disappearance of twin sisters Hannah and Beth, eight friends return to the mountain cabin belonging to the parents of their friend Josh, brother of the missing sisters. Shortly after arriving, the friends realize they may not be the only people on this mountain.” What follows is a fun and disturbing mystery story.
The game the movie will be based on is actually a great horror story! I’ve played it a few times with my teenage girls. The game has replayability as players can make different decisions as you play taking the story in different directions and there are multiple different outcomes. The game also had a great cast which included Rami Malek AND Hayden Panettiere in the motion capture versions.
Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions and head of product for PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment, said in a statement: “As our partnership with Sony Pictures continues to grow, we are thrilled to be working on our first film with Screen Gems. Until Dawn is a fan-favorite PlayStation game and we can’t wait to bring it to the big screen.”
The film has a great team of talent attached to it and I’m happy to see that Sandberg is returning to the horror genre for his next film. I think he will do a great job with this project.
