In case we needed another reminder of how difficult it is to navigate life these days financially, Disney CEO Bob Iger doesn’t really feel that kind of pain. Iger made $31.6 million in 2023, a ridiculous amount of money. But he’ll point out that’s down from the $45.9 million he earned in 2021, which was his last full year working at the company.
Variety analyzed Iger’s 2023 compensation package which “included $865,385 in base salary, plus $16.1 million in stock awards, $10 million in stock awards, $2.14 million in cash bonus and $2.48 million in other compensation.” This is all according to the company’s proxy statement filed Tuesday with the SEC.
Iger’s contract with Disney expires at the end of 2026 and he will continue to make an absurd amount of money. It would be a nice thing to never have to worry about money, and Iger has put a lot of people in that position of financial hardship.
As Iger earned that amount of money, he implemented mass layoffs that ultimately affected more than 8,000 workers, among other strategic and cost-cutting measures. Iger also said some pretty stupid and ignorant things during the writers’ and actors’ walkouts.
It’s really amazing to see how much money these people who run Hollywood make! The guys at the tech giant are doing even more!
