Spider-Man: Beyond Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord AND Chris Miller recently offered an update on the upcoming sequel that will close out this wild journey of Miles Morales. They promised that this final chapter will leave fans satisfied and even offered some additional insight into what’s going on in Miles’ head as his story continues. Lord told Deadline:
“It will be a very satisfying conclusion. It will deepen even more emotionally the relationships between Miles, Gwen, Peter B., [and Miles’] parents.”
Lord also shared that all of our favorite characters would be returning for the final farewell to the Spider-Verse trilogy. He went on to talk about the second film’s cliffhanger ending, in which Miles is stuck in the wrong universe and faces a variant of himself, which appears to be the Prowler.
“The most interesting thing for Miles [in Beyond the Spider-Verse] is it like facing a sense of betrayal and turning it into something affirming? And I think what we try to do with these films is portray goodness and show how the love that the characters in the film have for Miles translates into his growth and his success.”
Franchise star Jake Johnson, who plays the older Peter B. Parker in the films, has been discussed before Beyond the Spider-Verse and assured fans that the third film will be epic. He said:
“Here’s what I can promise, and I said this about the second one when we were in the middle of making it: Phil Lord, Chris Miller, everybody, the producers of this, the directors that they’re going to bring in… What they did with the first one is that all the directors have become executive producers. So they keep adding more. What I can promise is that they won’t stop until it’s great. And if that means it takes a little longer, if that means it’s even greater , if that means it’s longer – they don’t play by anyone’s rules. They work really hard. As actors, we’re always shocked to be asked to record this one. I think it was a month before the screening and we couldn’t believe that we were still recording. So they won’t stop until it’s amazing and I have nothing but faith in them. But what about giving something away [about the story]I can not do that.”
Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally supposed to be released in 2024 before its release date was removed from the schedule. The film’s release will be postponed, but the film is currently in production. I can’t wait to see how this story ends!
