New rumors may give fans hope that Jason Sudeikis will return to play TED LASSO

Fans were quite disappointed to see the bittersweet ending to the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. While the perfectly written and acted show concluded sweetly with messages of friendship and hope, fans longed for much more than three seasons. It didn’t feel like enough time with these beloved characters! But it was always said that the writers had a three-season story arc they set out to tell, and while they weren’t completely ruled out of a spin-off in the future, there was nothing in the works when this chapter concluded, especially for the show’s title star, played by Jason Sudeikis.

A recent report claims that we might actually see it return, perhaps. The Hollywood Reporter’s Lesley Goldberg recently appeared on TV’s Top 5 podcast (via CB), and said there might be more Ted Lassos after all, saying:

“Obviously, the finale set up a couple of different possible spinoffs. They’ve been quiet about what’s going on. I know I’ve heard through sources that Jason Sudeikis desperately misses that character. So, who knows if we’ll find a way to bring him back back with a fourth season of Ted Lasso or if they do another spin-off.”

He obviously misses playing the eternally optimistic and wildly popular character. This makes sense. But if he tells people how much he misses them, maybe there’s a chance he wants to come back in some way. When the show ended, I reported that the director of the final episode of the series Declan Lowney said there were “quite a few clues” in the finale montage, including a hint at the possibility of Nate, Beard and Roy managing AFC Richmond, or Keeley pitching for an AFC Richmond women’s team that could have run with Rebecca . Even though Ted’s story seemed to end with him returning home to be close to his son, I would be thrilled to see his story continue in the United States.

Brendan Hunt, who played Coach Beard on Ted Lasso in addition to being the show’s co-creator, recently took part in a Reddit AMA (via Deadline) and talked about the possibility of a spinoff. Hunt wrote:

“My answer is 100% true: we don’t know. We need a break and we’ll take one right now. Nothing is ruled out, anything is possible; but that includes the possibility that we’re done. We won’t know until we we will sit for a while [and] decompressed.”

Recently, Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) spoke to Deadline and talked about the idea of a spin-off and what he thinks could be next for Nate, and when asked if he thinks about the future of his character, he said:

“No, no, actually I haven’t. Well, every now and then I do. We always hear these rumors about a spin-off and I feel really wary of anything, because I feel like Nate’s story in particular seems so complete. I feel like we don’t really need to see or know anymore. We just needed to have those little pieces. I think we could leave them there, and I’d be very proud.”

When asked if Nate could get married and have children, Mohammed responded:

“I still don’t think there are any loose ends to a certain extent there. He probably still needs to go to Dr. Sharon [Sarah Niles] For a while.”

He added:

“Ted won’t come back, because he won’t make this mistake. He has to stay with Melissa and Henry. That’s where he belongs, and that’s where he’s happy. There will always be things for the characters to do.” . They’re not suddenly perfect. Ted probably still has his demons in there. But it’s such a cathartic ending. I think it would be a shame to say, ‘And I’ll see you next year.’ It’s like, well, where do we start? You know, I’m sure if we do something – who knows – I’m sure there will be a considerable gap between them, especially if we do another series. I do not know. But we’ll see.”

I don’t think we’ll ever see the whole group together again. The show was a snapshot of a perfect moment in time with all those great characters together. But I would be happy to see a lot of their stories individually.

What do you think? Would you like to see Sudeikis return to the role?
