John Ridley says his secret Marvel project would be an ETERNALS series that would be better than the movie

Already in 2015 we reported the Oscar-winning writer and producer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave, American crime) was taking on a super-secret Marvel project that was going to be turned into a TV series. It was still early days for the MCU and there were so many possibilities that no one really speculated on what the project might be. But Ridley is now talking about what it would have been and he let fans know it would have been amazing.

In a recent interview on the Comic Book Club podcast (via CB), Ridley finally confirmed that his secret Marvel TV project centered on the Eternals, a group of super-powered beings who prevent the universe from being destroyed by cosmic forces. As Ridley stated, the television adaptation of him would be “the good version” of the source material, which was ultimately adapted into the 2021 film. Eternals Of Chloe Zhao. Ridley explained:

“It’s not in the works anymore. It was a TV version of The Eternals… But a good one… My version was the good one. It was so damn weird. There was my version, a good version, which is good.” to me, which… means nothing, there was the version that [Marvel] I finally did, which I don’t think… that version was particularly good. I’ll be honest.”

As for what his version would look like, Ridley said:

“My version starts with the first thing you see is a young man, probably about 18. And he’s sitting there. He stands there for a moment. And then he raises his hands. He’s got a drill in him. And he turns the drill on. And he puts the ear drill. And he starts pushing it in. And then it goes from there. That’s the beginning, right? That’s how it starts. And then I think you see… another guy… He’s sleeping in the bathtub. bathroom, covers himself with aluminum foil. It’s just a really strange story about these people who are, I mean, it’s just strange.”

He went on to add:

The best thing for everyone is that it didn’t happen to me, because I don’t know if it would have been fun. And I mean, what’s entertaining to me is often not. Populist, which is great for a lot of the work I do, but this needed to be a little more popular.”

Who knows what might have happened if Ridley could have made his version Eternals. It seems like it could have been something that fans might have enjoyed.
