Lionsgate sets Leah McKendrick’s egg-freezing comedy for early winter release

Another title has just been added to the desert, Q1 2024, and it’s the Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions romantic comedy Mixed up on February 2, which had its world premiere at SXSW.

Directed, Written and Starring: Leah McKendrick. Mixed up follows Nellie Robinson (McKendrick), a broke, single 34-year-old, fresh off a breakup, who faces an existential crisis when she decides to freeze her eggs. Ego Nwodim (SNL, Love Life), Andreas Santino (Deaf), Clancy Brown (Shawshank Redemption, John Wick 4, Dexter: New Blood), Laura Ceron (Ward 19, first aid), Adam Rodríguez (Magic Mike, Criminal Minds), Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale) and June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie, long shot) is part of the ensemble cast.

McKendrick told Deadline’s Matt Grobar earlier this year: “Mixed up is inspired by the real-life struggles and hardships of a single 34-year-old woman who freezes her eggs. My goal was to make a film that was as uncomfortable, messy, raw, confronting and ultimately powerful as the experience itself.”

Mixed up achieved an 86% critic score on Fresh Rotten Tomatoes at SXSW. The film opens against Apple Original Films Argyll by filmmaker Matthew Vaughn on February 2.
