The witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski recently offered some thoughts on the Netflix series adaptation of his work. During a recent interview at Vienna Comic Con with Cerealkillerz, the writer was asked if he had any input on the show when he visited the set. Although he was very impressed with the set, he explained that the show’s creative team wasn’t interested in his ideas for the show. He said:
“Well, the set was amazing, it was so wow, everything. But no, maybe I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me. They never listened to me, but it’s normal, ‘Who is this? He’s the writer, and nobody.'”
Sapkowski also shared how it’s a strange experience for him to see adaptations of his work, saying:
“Every adaptation I’ve seen has been weird to me, I guess that’s the right word, weird. Every visual adaptation is weird to me. I look at it and go, ‘Woah, is that how they imagine it? Interesting.’ Sometimes the visual impression is very beautiful to me, sympathetic. Sometimes it’s not, but I won’t elaborate on it.”
It’s so crazy to me that these people have the creator of these stories and these characters at their disposal and, in the end, they push him aside and don’t listen to the input he has to offer. It’s ridiculous. You would think they would take advantage of that resource to help make the best show possible. Hand.
Henry Cavill he was the guy who fought for Sapkowski’s vision, and now he’s gone and replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the upcoming fourth season. I don’t have much hope for the future of this franchise. You can definitely tell that some aspects of season three suffered from creative differences. We’ll just have to wait and see how things go, but I don’t expect much.
What do you think about it!?
