It was announced over the summer Hocus Pocus 3 is in development at Disney+. The third film in the series is a no-brainer, like the long-awaited one Hocus Pocus 2 was a runaway success for the streamer and fans can’t wait to have more fun with the Sanderson sisters!
The screenwriter of the film Jen D’Angelo confirmed to Entertainment weekly that the Sanderson sisters’ next tale is still in story development following the end of the WGA strike.
“We’re still in the story phase, we’re still working on it. We are working on some ideas. It’s been fun to dive back into that world and we have so many directions to go and so many new characters to explore. We’ve only scratched the surface of Hannah Waddingham’s witch mother.
Emmy winner Ted Lasso actress Hannah Waddingham he did it Hocus Pocus debut in the second chapter, released in 2022 on Disney+. She played Mother Witch, a sinister woman who gives the book of spells to the young Sanderson sisters. While Waddingham’s return in the upcoming film isn’t officially set, it appears that D’Angelo and team are once again planning a sequel that delves into the character’s backstory. The writer said that “everything is on the table” for the third installment and that “we definitely want to see them again as adults”, so obviously Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker AND Kathy Najimy he will be courted once again to star.
D’Angelo continues:
“I hope we’re able to explore every aspect of these stories and take these characters on lots of fun adventures. We don’t really know what it is, but we’re exploring all the options, and I think everyone is so happy with the reaction that ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ has gotten, and we’re excited to continue those stories.
Hocus Pocus 2 was directed by Anne Fletcher, who will also return to direct the third film. Are you looking forward to the sequel? I am, and I’m thrilled Hannah Waddingham is back!
