It’s been a little over a year since Warner Bros. announced the film’s development. Constantine 2 with Keanu Reeves returning to acting Francesco Lorenzo returning to directing. From then to now there has been a lot of uncertainty regarding the film project, especially with James Gunn AND Pietro Safran taking over at DC Studios following the announcement.
Asked previously about the status of the project, Reeves said: “I was hoping so, but we don’t know. Yes, we’re trying.” He later went on to say, “I think they’re trying to figure out what to do with it. I hope to be able to reprise the role of John Constantine, but that remains to be seen. Yes. But I hope so. I hope so. AS.”
The last update we had on the project came from the screenwriter Akiva Goldman who said the project is still under construction and that’s why he ruined the story. This happened during the writer’s strike and he said, “My pens are down, so there’s nothing to be done. But yes, these are the next things I will write when I am allowed to write again, and I had already started [I Am] Legend 2 when we [started striking]and Francesco [Lawrence]Keanu [Reeves]and I broke down Constantine 2. I just haven’t started writing yet.”
Now Lawrence has offered a recent update on the status of the sequel and, speaking to Gamespot, said that the script has yet to be written and that they are looking to rate it R. He said:
“So Constantine 2 was obviously held up by the writers’ strike and we had to overcome a number of obstacles to regain control of the character, because other people were in control of the Vertigo stuff. We are in control. Keanu, Akiva Goldsman and I have been having meetings and talking about what we think the story is going to be, and there are more meetings that need to happen – the script needs to be written – but we’re really hoping that we get to do that. make Constantine 2 and make it a real R version.”
It’s nice to know that the project is still in development! Reeves shared his enthusiasm for the project, and it’s something he’s been trying to accomplish for years. He previously said: “I don’t know if it was unfinished business, but it was definitely a role that I loved. And I thought Francis Lawrence, the director, did a fantastic job. I loved playing that character and I really enjoyed it.” the film and I thought: [in a Oliver Twist voice] “Can I have some more?” I kept asking myself this almost every year. I’d say, “Can I please?” and they would say, ‘No, no!'”
But then one day he finally left! Reeves said: “So it’s exciting. It’s almost like an outdoor playground where hopefully we can cook something and play with it, and I guess get off the playground and make a meal. But I’m looking forward to it and hopefully , it can happen. You don’t know how these things go. But I will definitely do my best to try to make that dream come true.”
What kind of story would you like to see told Constantine 2?
