Matthew Vaughn revealed that his next spy film Argyle the film is actually set in the same universe as Kingsman franchise and there are already plans for a crossover.
The director shared this fun and interesting tidbit while guesting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and here’s what he had to say:
“I simply enjoy the challenge of launching new intellectual property (IP). I think it’s harder, but it’s more fun. Argylle, like I said, the book is coming out… and we have an Argylle 2 planned. So there is a universe. What we’re trying to do…[What] wonder [is to] superheroes, we want to be spies. We have the Kingsman on the right. Argylle is on the left. We also have an idea for something in between. We have these competing franchises in a galaxy that may one day meet.”
I love it and if they could follow through with this plan, I have no doubt it would be a lot of fun! Vaughn makes fun action movies and the world of Kingsman it’s crazy fun! It will be interesting to see how these plans and ideas come together!
At Argyle, Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, “the reclusive author of a series of best-selling spy novels, whose idea of happiness is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books, centering on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate, begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. “
Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), “a cat-allergic spy, Elly (who carries Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of assassins as the lines between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begin to blur.”
Vaughn also explained on the podcast that the Argylle book, on which the film is based and written by debut novelist Elly Conway, will be published in January 2024. Elly Conway is also the name of the character Bryce Dallas Howard plays. Vaughn’s next film, which gives the spy thriller “a lot of meta qualities.”
The rest of the cast includes John Cena, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, Catherine O’HaraAND Samuel L. Jackson.
Argyle will be released in theaters on February 2, 2024.
