I have a great new trailer to watch for a Canadian post-apocalyptic revenge thriller titled Polar. This project comes from the director KC Carthewwhich describes the film as “Mad Max in the Arctic, an origin story of a world fallen into shame that relies on environmental stewardship/horror themes.”
The story of the film includes some interesting elements of a genre story and I can’t wait to watch it. It looks like it will take audiences on a wild and untamed adventure of revenge and survival.
The film is set in 2144 against the harsh backdrop of a frozen wasteland: “Sumi, a human child raised by Mama Polar Bear, narrowly escapes capture by a brutal Morad hunting party and sets out across the vast winter landscape . When Sumi stumbles upon Frozen Girl, an unlikely friendship is born and together they race ahead of vengeful hunters towards the only guiding light Sumi knows, the North Star. Filmed in the subarctic region, the story is set in a futuristic frozen world born from the brutal disregard of previous generations, where any nation could be buried under the snow.”
The director further explained: “it is inspired by eco-feminism and the need for significant cultural and sustainable change. The film portrays these themes with an all-female cast, including the polar bear.”
Epic Pictures will release Carthew’s Polar on VOD in the United States starting November 7, 2023.
