Below you’ll find a new trailer for the upcoming feel-good inspirational film Radical. The film tells the true story of a teacher who arrives in a Mexican border town plagued by abandonment, corruption and violence. The teacher is dissatisfied with the education system of elementary school children in the area, so he takes it upon himself to make a change with a radically new way of teaching, which worked!
The film is the protagonist Eugenio Derbez like Sergio, and his new way of teaching is completely unconventional in letting children lead the lessons in the classroom and learning from things they are interested in or have questions about and treating children as if they were real human beings. It’s the exact opposite of how things have been taught in school for years… and it works!
The synopsis reads: “Who will the sixth-grade students at Jose Urbina Lopez Elementary School in Matamoros become? They are among the lowest-achieving students in Mexico; the world they know is one of violence and hardship, and their classrooms are dominated by an atmosphere of overbearing discipline, no chance. It might seem like a dead end… it’s also the perfect place for new teacher Sergio Juarez to try something different. There’s only one problem: Sergio (played by an extraordinary Eugenio Derbez ) has no idea what he’s doing.”
The film was a huge hit at the Sundance Film Festival and I loved it. This is such a beautifully told story that it gets quite emotional at times. You can read my review here.
The film comes from the director Cristoforo Zallaand he made a hopeful and uplifting film that I think audiences will love and appreciate.
Pantelion Films will release Radical in select theaters on October 20, 2023.
