Guillermo del Toro he has made it clear that he loves the art of animation and a few months ago he even said that in the future he will try to make only animated films. At the time he said, “I just want to do animation.”
Since del Toro is a huge fan of animation, he has some thoughts to share Hayao Miyazaki the director of the next film The boy and the heronand many other amazing animated films produced by Studio Ghibli.
Del Toro believes that Hayao Miyazaki is the Mozart of his time. The director made a surprise appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival to present Miyazaki’s latest film, The boy and the heronand he said:
“Animation is film, and tonight’s film goes beyond that. Animation is difficult. We are privileged to live in a time when Mozart composed symphonies. Miyazaki san is a master of that stature, and we are so lucky to be here… He changed the medium in which he began, he revolutionized it, proving time and time again that this is an extraordinary work of art.”
Del Toro went on to call Miyazaki “the greatest animation director ever” and said that “he made his films as full of dialogue and questions as he was. These are not easy films, but they are films that portray him so intimately that you feel like you are having a conversation with him.”
You can’t argue with that. I love all the films Miyazaki has made over the years and it’s incredibly sad that after his next film we won’t see any more films made by the artist.
In The boy and the heron: “Through encounters with his friends and uncle, the story follows the psychological development of a teenager. He enters a magical world with a talking gray heron after finding an abandoned tower in his new town.
