Thor 5 hasn’t been announced or approved by Marvel yet, but if it goes ahead, director Taika Waititi has some ideas. The first two Thor movies were beautifully made but slower movies in the MCU. Then the third film, Thor: Ragnarok from Waititi came, and it was full of bright colors, and it gave the God of Thunder a bigger personality. Thor was fun and the movie definitely took on a more comedic tone than most previous Marvel movies, which shined in the Thor actor Chris Hemsworthportrayal of the superhero in the following Avengers films, as well as his fourth solo film, Thor: Love and thunder. While his future isn’t yet defined, both Waititi and Hemsworth have ideas should the opportunity present itself.
In “Thor: Love and Thunder The Official Movie Special book” (courtesy of ScreenRant), Waititi said:
“What’s left for him to do? It has to be something that feels like it’s continuing as the character evolves, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to contend with that feel like they’re building on the obstacles he has to overcome. I don’t think that we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to go a step further and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable.”
Hemsworth has previously said of his character moving into a potential fifth film:
“I mean, you look at Thor one and two, they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love & Thunder: similar. I think it’s just about reinventing it. [Avengers] Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character; I like it, I like keeping people alert, it keeps me alert, it keeps me invested. And I’ve said this before: when it gets too familiar, I think there’s a risk of getting lazy, I think, like, ‘Ah, I know what I’m doing,’ you know? So I don’t know — again, I don’t even know if I’ll be invited back. But if you were, I think it would have to be a drastically different take: tone, everything. Just for my sanity [laughs].”
For now, nothing is set in stone, especially with the writers and actors on strike. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but I think if Thor 5 moves forward, it will only happen with a good story in mind. I trust Feige and Waititi to do what’s best for the MCU. Would you like to see Thor in another solo film?
