BLUE BEETLE director actually pitched his Bane movie idea to DC for Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe

BLUE BEETLE director actually pitched his Bane movie idea to DC for Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe

Blue Beetle director Angelo Manuel Soto he previously shared that he originally wanted to direct a Bane movie for DC Studios. When he went to meet with the studio, that was the film he wanted to pitch, and he explained, “I’ve always thought there was something interesting about exploring his reality about him and how a character like that comes about.”

The director has now offered more details about it, and it turns out that he actually pitched his Bane movie to the studio and wanted it to be part of Matt Reeves’Batman universe. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the director shared his experience, saying:

“You have to be prepared if they ask you what you want to do, and I’ve always wanted to explore Bane’s origin story. It’s super intriguing, especially where he’s from and the different topics that could be explored if we take into consideration that maybe he’s the hero of his same story, so it was very interesting to be able to talk about situations that have affected the Caribbean and Latin America for centuries through the character of Bane.

“So I came up with that idea, but that was Matt Reeves’ universe with The Batman, and I don’t know what’s going to happen now with this new regime. But that was my main attempt, and [DC executive] Galen [Vaisman] he was like, ‘Okay, that’s a good idea, but we wanted to pitch you something.’ And that’s when he introduced the idea of Blue Beetle.

Matt Reeves’ Batman universe stands on its own and James Gunn is not a part of what he is doing there and from what I understand, he has no say in what Reeves is doing. A Bane movie set in that universe would be incredibly interesting, and only time will tell if that ever happens. It seems that Soto should pitch his idea of him directly to Reeves if he wants his Bane movie to happen. The producer he met with at Warner Bros. obviously had plans for him to get Soto to direct Blue Beetle.

Hopefully, Soto will one day get to make his own Bane movie! He’s definitely got his foot in the door now, and if Blue Beetle is successful, he could use it as leverage to make his own Bane movie.

Bane first appeared in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1 (January 1993). He was created by the writers Chuck Dixon AND Doug Moenchtogether with the artist Graham Nolan.

Bane was born and raised in the fictional Caribbean republic of Santa Prisca. His father, Edmund Dorrance (also known as King Snake), was a revolutionary who had escaped the island’s judicial system. However, the corrupt government decided that his young son would instead serve a life sentence in the penitentiary, Pena Dura (“Hard Penalty”). This made Bane’s life extremely brutal from the start.

Raised in the harsh conditions of the prison, Bane has grown into a formidable fighter and tactician. His intellectual curiosity led him to educate himself extensively in various fields through the books provided by the Jesuit priest who looked after him. He learned multiple languages, studied many academic disciplines and became a master strategist and escape artist.

In the prison, Bane was experimented with a drug known as Venom. While many others had died from the Venom experiments, Bane survived and found that the drug greatly increased his physical strength, although he needed to take it every 12 hours or suffer debilitating side effects.

Would you like to see Soto make a Bane movie?
