Natalie Portman spoke with great sincerity about Diane Keaton, who died on October 11, during her master class at the Lumiere Film Festival, Deadline writes.

Speaking about Diane, Natalie shared, “She gave the female characters the opportunity to be as well-rounded as the male characters we usually see. They were neurotic, funny, smart, emotional, and weird. She allowed women to be weird on screen. She was who she was, and you loved her for it.”
When asked which other actresses inspire her, Portman spoke admiringly of Gena Rowlands, Julianne Moore, Isabelle Huppert and Nicole Kidman.
Portman also shared that she founded her own production company “to create the films she wanted to see in the world and the films she wanted to take part in”: “I grew up without much knowledge or love for cinema. I mostly watched mainstream films. I grew up watching The Lion King, Mrs. Doubtfire, Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman. However, when I started making films, I started researching the history of cinema.”
