BLUE BEETLE director is relieved to be part of James Gunn’s DC Cinematic Universe

Warner Bros.’ Blue Beetle the film survived a storm of studio madness and managed to hit theaters last weekend. While the film was in production there was a regime change at Warner Bros. and DC Studios, and as the studio canceled projects such as Bad girl, Blue Beetle he made it and is considered part of James Gunn AND Peter Safranof the DC cinematic universe.

As you can imagine, the director of Blue Beetle, Angelo Manuel Soto, is relieved to be part of Gunn’s plans, but we don’t know exactly what Blue Beetle’s future looks like right now. Soto told THR:

“Yes, that was definitely one of the relief elements. It is the fact that all this effort would not have died during this regime change. We have survived regime changes throughout the entire process, and this was a testament to the hard work everyone put into it.

“There is also faith in our characters, who will now be part of this new DC universe, especially the character of Xolo and all of her family and the character of Bruna Marquezine. So knowing that they will continue to move forward in the DCU has allowed me to feel relief for myself and for them. It’s a testament to the amount of heart and talent they have.”

I mean, their continuation really depends on the box office numbers. As of now, it has underperformed with $25 million in its opening weekend. Audiences and fans showed up, but not in droves. Some people might not think that it’s worth shelling out big bucks to go see this movie, because going to the movies isn’t cheap these days!

I didn’t get to see Blue Beetle yet, since i have been traveling, but i will finally make it this week. However, the film is getting good reviews.

When Soto began to envision the journey of Blue Beetle, has designed a trilogy of films. When previously talked about his complete vision of Blue Beetlethe director said:

“Our first film, the way we wanted to make it, was always with the mentality that we wanted to make at least two more, and taking the traditional three-act structure of a story, we wanted our first film to be basically the first act of a saga.

“We’re part of the universe, we’re part of the world, we’re part of the plans they created for future installments of the DCU. But we’re not tied to every movie from the past. Yes, our movie lives in the world where the superheroes. But that doesn’t mean that a certain event, or a certain alliance, or certain things from the past determine where our movie is going.”

The story of the film centers on Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), the alter ego of the Blue Beetle, a vigilante who has a beetle grafted onto his spine that grants him tremendous powers and the ability to emit blue energy. Here is the synopsis:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find home isn’t quite the way he left it. As he tries to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Beetle. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime as its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with incredible armor with extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero BLUE BEETLE.

The Blue Beetle is also in the cast Bruna Marquezine as Penny, the female lead and love interest; Belissa Escobedo as Jamie’s younger sister Milagros; as well as Harvey Guillen; AND Susan Sarandon as the villain Victoria Kord.

If you have seen Blue Beetle, what did you think!? Are you hoping to see more of the character in the future?
