Aaron Taylor-Johnson “They Don’t Give A Thing” about KICK-ASS, GODZILLA or AVENGERS; He just wanted to be with his kids

Aaron Taylor Johnson is known for playing a breakout star in several franchises, and is headed in many other big name movies like Kraven the hunter, The fallen boyAND Nosferatu. But it turns out he didn’t care much for the roles that created him, and he turned down many others that we didn’t even know about because of the stage in life he was at.

In an interview with Esquire (via Uproxx), the actor explained:

“All those things lined up for me. But I didn’t really care about them. She was getting offers to make more of that stuff for more money. He was ready for roles “that nobody knows about: big, huge franchises that were in the game.” But by then he and Sam had two small children. The decision not to continue on that successful path was not a difficult one. “I just wanted to be with my kids,” he says. “I didn’t want to be taken away from them. I fought with how it was going to be.

The actor has also been a little more forthright about his early days of success, saying, “I didn’t give a shit about it either.”

Of course, Taylor-Johnson’s opinion has changed. He now he is the protagonist of the next one Kraven the hunter. Though, again, he’s candid about that experience.

“I mean, honestly, I thought I was done with these kinds of movies,” he told Esquire before later revealing that he’s ready to get back into the blockbuster world this time around. “You can’t get into this role, you can’t get into what this franchise is, with half a fuckin’ ass, let’s see how the attitude goes. You have to be mentally prepared for what might come with that. I think I’m safe in my life now knowing I’m happy to deal with it.

At first reading it seems that he took for granted the roles he was given. But it’s natural to feel pushed in another direction when you’re a parent of young children. It’s great that she’s so involved with his kids and she wanted to be there as much as he did. But I’m glad we’ll see even more of him. He’s a great actor and he’s a great protagonist.

Kraven the hunter will hit theaters on August 30, 2024.
