Director Louis Letterier is known to do Now you see Me, The Incredible Hulk, Fast Xand so much more, but his career really started when he was at the helm The carrierhero Jason Statham in 2002. He returned to direct the sequel, Conveyor 2 in 2005, but subsequently exited the franchise. Statham went on to star in one more film but eventually walked away as well.
In 2015, Statham spoke to Vulture (via CB) to reveal why he’s leaving the franchise, saying:
“You know what? It was obviously a great experience making those movies, and I would have loved to keep making them. But they wanted me to sign and do three more movies without even seeing a script, and they offered me less money if I made three more than how much would I get paid for one! So it was a business decision. I would have loved to do it, but you really can’t sign on without doing a script and signing on for three of them? And getting paid a pittance? I just couldn’t see the value.”
It’s laughable that the studio didn’t see Statham’s value and the pull of the franchise enough to make his return worth it. But it’s been eight years and perhaps the studio would be interested in returning to film again. Louis Leterrier has shown interest in him.
The director reunited with Statham on the recent film, Fast Xand when asked what it was like to direct it again and his opinion on returning to the original film franchise, Leterrier said:
“I mean, that would be a dream. No, I mean, we’ve done commercials together, we’ve seen each other socially, but we haven’t worked together in a long, long time and just seeing him being able to work with him calls the action on the scene.” he was in. Directing him was amazing and it was the start of his career, just the start of my career with two different people. But at the same time, you know, our hearts are the same and our love for each other is same. It was a real pleasure. So, I mean, why not like this? You know, Frank Martin is a great character. The transporter is a great character. A Jason [Statham] he is an amazing actor. We need more Transporters, right?”
I think so! I loved the Conveyor movie and I think fans would be receptive to a reboot with the original star and director. What do you think?
