There have been reports that director Mel Gibson was developing its sequel to Christ’s passionwhich is called Passion of Christ: Resurrection. Jim Cavizelwho played Jesus in the first film, recently offered an update on the project and believes the story is so big it will be split into two films.

During a recent appearance on The Shawn Ryan Show, Caviezel was asked about the project and said:

“I asked him [Gibson] would you be ready to go in january, she said “yeah, maybe”. I said “how about late fall” she said “yeah maybe”. So who knows […] it could be two movies, maybe three, but I think it’s two.

There is also a report from World of Reel that production will begin this fall. As the film progresses, Caviezel will reprise his role as Jesus Christ. The film will tell the story of Christ’s resurrection and in a previous interview with the actor, he said the film will “shock audiences” and be the “greatest film in history.”

“There are things I can’t say that will shock audiences. He’s amazing. Stay tuned. I won’t tell you how he does it. But I’ll tell you this, the movie he’s going to make is going to be the greatest movie in history. It’s so good.”

The film was written by Brave heart scribe Randall Wallacewho previously stated, “I’ve always wanted to tell this story. The Passion is the beginning and there’s still a lot of story to tell.”

Christ’s passion was released in 2004 and tells the story of the last days of the life of Jesus Christ and his crucifixion. The film made $612 million on a $30 million budget.

Cavielzel is currently seeing the recently released anti-child trafficking thriller Sound of Freedom, which is registering a big box office success.
