Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally ready to move on The Terminator franchise. We’ll never see the actor as the T-800 again, and that’s okay. This franchise played a huge role in launching Schwarzenegger’s career and he did a great job!

During an interview with THR, Schwarzenegger was asked about the future of the Terminator franchise and while he anticipates more movies to come, he won’t be returning. He also says that someone had a great idea to continue the franchise:

“The franchise isn’t over. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move forward with a different theme when it comes to the Terminator. Someone has to have a great idea. The Terminator was largely responsible for my success, so I would always look at him with a lot of affection”.

He went on to share his thoughts on the Terminator movies, saying:

“The first three movies were great. Number four [Salvation] I wasn’t there because I was governor. Then five [Genisys] and you are [Dark Fate] didn’t close the deal as far as I’m concerned. We knew that in advance because they weren’t written well.”

James Cameron previously revealed that discussions were underway about him continuing the sci-fi action franchise. He said, “If I were to do another Terminator movie and maybe try to relaunch that franchise, which is up for debate, but nothing has been decided, I would do it a lot more on the AI side than bad robots gone berserk. . “

He also expanded on what future sequels would entail, saying:

“I feel that one of my main motivations in this film or in returning to the franchise, hopefully, was to explore the human relationship with artificial intelligence. I don’t think we did that in Dark Fate. I feel like we set the stage or set the table for that exploration, and that exploration would take place in a second film and a third film. And we know exactly where we’re going to take that idea. What we wanted to achieve in the first film was the idea that it would continue to happen. The names will change, but the underlying conflict will continue to occur until it is resolved one way or another.

It makes perfect sense that the next film in the franchise would focus on AI because right now, that’s the hot topic of conversation. If this franchise has any chance of surviving, Cameron has to be heavily involved in the creative process, which hasn’t been the case with the last two films.

What do you think of Schwarzenegger being done with The Terminator? What would you like to see from the franchise as it continues?
