Tom Hanks admits he’s misbehaved on movie sets in the past

Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks he is known for his roles in many different movies including dramas like PhiladelphiaAND Forrest Gumpthe two films for which he won Oscars, comedies such as Great and its series Breast friendsromantic comedies like Sleepless in Seattle AND You’ve got mailand many feel-good movies too. He’s the good guy in the movies, and has often been referred to as America’s Sweetheart, but he’s only human, and recently admitted that he’s not so perfect on the sets of some of his previous work.

While doing the press for her new novel, Making of another great cinematic masterpieceHanks told BBC News that some of the characters in his book who end up misbehaving, having meltdowns or bullying others on set are entirely based on his worst days making films:

“I’ve pulled every one of those behavior moments on a set myself. Not everyone is at their best every single day on a film set. I’ve had difficult days trying to be a pro when my life was falling apart in more than one way and requirement for me that day is to be fun and charming and loving – and that’s the last way I feel.”

He also hinted that other accounts fictionally depicted in the novel may reflect some of the experiences Hanks has had working with some of Hollywood’s elite who are revered, but aren’t actually as cool as you’d hope. He continued:

“You’ll be amazed at how many people know they can get away with it, and are told they can get away with it because they’re carrying the movie on their shoulders.”

I think people have a good idea that some actors can be a total pain. We’ve heard stories of difficult people in the industry, so it’s not shocking, but it’s interesting. I feel that while he’s had bad days on set in the past, Hanks is probably still a good guy. I haven’t heard anything to the contrary, and I like to think it’s true.

Making of another great cinematic masterpiece is now available where books are sold.
