Margot Robbie has developed into a household name, taking on roles such as Harley Quinn, Tonya Harding and Sharon Tate, to name a few, and is now playing an even more famous character around the world in Barbie. The film has kept its synopsis under wraps as a whole, but ever since Robbie co-stars Ryan Gosling declared last year that the film boasted one of the best scripts he had ever read, people started to wonder if this film was really going to be more fulfilling than we expected.

Robbie has now opened up about his first impressions of the film’s script in a recent interview with BAFTA (via Deadline), saying:
“The first time I read the Barbie script, my reaction was, ‘Ah! This is so beautiful. Too bad it will never see the light of day. Because they’ll never let us make this movie.
Robbie couldn’t say more about the surrounding story Barbie and my jaw dropped when asked about the script. The director and co-writer of the film, nominated for an Oscar Greta Gervigshe previously spoke about how terrifying it was for her to write this script, telling Dua Lipa on her podcast, At your service:
“It was terrifying. I think there’s something about starting at that point where it’s like, ‘Well, anything is possible.’ I felt dizzy starting to write it. Like, where do you start? What would the story be?
He then added:
“Usually, that’s where the best stuff is. When you say ‘I’m terrified of this’. Anything where you say, ‘This could be a career-ending,’ then you’re like, ‘OK, I should probably do this.'”
Robbie plays the lead role of the classic Barbie doll and Ryan Gosling plays Ken. They are joined by an all-star cast that also includes America Ferrara, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindell, Ritu Arya, Jamie Demetrius AND Marisa Abela.
