The stunning first trailer for THE KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS teases a gritty new adventure in Westeros

The fans of game of Thrones Universe are officially returning to Westeros and the first teaser of A knight of the seven kingdoms promises a return that feels familiar and refreshingly different. This looks like a lot of fun!

The new HBO series, which will premiere in January 2026, will adapt George R. R. MartinThe Hedge Knight and bring the adventures of Dunk and Egg to life in a story full of heart and grit.

At New York Comic Con, audiences got a sneak peek at the six-episode series. The panel introduced the showrunner Ira Parker along with the cast members Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniele Monaci, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-LawlorAND Danny Webb.

They discussed how the show will adapt Martin’s beloved first Dunk and Egg story, The Knight Errant: The Tournament at Ashford Meadowon a grounded, character-driven journey through Westeros.

Fans of the books will recognize this as the story in which Duncan the Tall (Claffey) becomes a knight after the death of his mentor. It’s a humble but powerful story as it’s a squire turned knight, who takes on a new apprentice, a boy named Egg (Ansell).

Of course, readers know there’s more to Egg than meets the eye, as the young squire hides a secret that will determine the future of the kingdom.

Parker offered some insight into how A knight of the seven kingdoms fits into the broader one game of Thrones timeline that he tells Entertainment Weekly:

“The fact that we live in this world where magic once existed is very interesting to me. This is the ground and the grass that has already seen dragons and dragon fire. So everything is just as the world is, but a little stranger, a little different.”

Set approximately 50 years after House of the Dragon, the show is set in an era where dragons are long gone, well before the events that reignited their legacy in game of Thrones. That absence creates a new kind of tension in Westeros, fueled by ambition, honor, and human survival.

What’s most exciting is the tone Parker and his team are going for. Instead of extensive political intrigue or mass warfare, A knight of the seven kingdoms will give fans a closer, more intimate look at life in Westeros. There are no battles on the Iron Throne here, just a world of knights, tournaments and the quiet moments of courage that make this corner of Martin’s lore so beloved.

With House of the Dragon returning for its third season later that year, 2026 is shaping up to be a celebration for game of Thrones fans. And if this first trailer is any indication, A knight of the seven kingdoms it will be a great and beautiful new chapter in the history of Westeros.
